Abstract
Simulation models are frequently used on the industrialized nation as important decision making tools in the area of forest management. These management tools are not used in Chile. This study represents an initial attempt to describe simulation modeling techniques in order that they may be used in the management of private forest lands.
The first part of the study outlines the definitions and concepts of simulation modeling. Subsequently, the distinct types of models and a brief review of their use in forest management is discussed. Finally a cutting regulation model, based on data from a hypothetical company, is described
