Abstract

The present study describes the determination of the pH-value of the wood of 14 species of a secondgrowth forest, from Valdivia, that could eventually be used in particle-boards manufacture.
The material was obtained from two heights in the trees: breastheight and crown. The measurements were taken from material in the form of sawdust made from green wood and ovendry wood, preparing solutions in destilled water and in KCI, 0,1 N. Furthermore, measurements were made from green and ovendry bark of the same trees.
The values obtained show that no problem should be expected in the possible use of these species in particle-board as far as the pH-value is concerned.
None of the species showed values extremely high or low that could influence the hardening of the adhesives employed in particle-board production.
