Abstract

Germination of five Nothofagus species seedlots were tested at the Centro de Ciencias Forestales Laboratory, in Chillan, from november 1979 through January 1980.
Methods usually applied in Chile, to promote forest seeds germination, were compared with the use of gibberellin and thiourea solutions.
Germination rate as well as total germination increased when N. alessandri, N. obliqua and N. pumilio seeds were soaked in gibberellin (GA3) solution: 25 ppm for 15 or 30 hours, and/or in thiourea solution: 0,5% for 2 or 4 days.
N. alpina and N. dombeyi seedlots did not respond to those treatments, under test the conditions.
